Adolescent Classroom 2019
Spring Internship Week
May 6th-May 10th
As a way to set up the adolescent with the tools necessary to discern their cosmic task in the world, the adolescent curriculum at Way of the Shepherd will provide an Internship Week for them in May. During the next couple months leading up to May, the adolescent will research, communicate, and contact someone who is skilled in their trade in order to set up a time for the adolescent to shadow and become an apprentice to them. This not only harkens to Maria Montessori’s theory for the adolescent learning real-world skills like farming, woodcarving, and managing a business but provides an avenue for the adolescent to discover a meeting ground of where their gifts and interests lie and explore that place.
I ask for your support and participation during this week. Each adolescent’s experience will vary depending on their interest and communication with their mentor. I will be a guide to the students but their research, communication and planning will be entirely led by them. They will end up sharing in an oral presentation their experience with the class and with parents and reflect on the tools and skills they gained. Below are the details regarding the Internship Week.
7th Grade: Intern under a guide at Way of the Shepherd
8th Grade: Apprentice under a mentor in their desired career field
