I am so grateful to each of my 7th and 8th grade students for this past school year. It has been a full but beautiful year and I have learned so much from each of them.
I am so excited to celebrate our first graduating class this Wednesday at the EOY Mass at 6 p.m. at the Church of St. Paul. I will probably shed a tear or two! I just wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for this year - it is such an honor to be able to walk and guide each of your children. They have grown so much in confidence, in their identities, and in their faith and I am amazed at that just as much as their growth in their academics. I pray that this was a blessed year for them, regardless of where they are journeying onto next. Know that I will miss each of your children next year and pray that their journey from WOS will be blessed and have a smooth transition. Never hesitate to reach out to me for anything you may need this summer and into future years of high school and beyond. Prayers and hugs, Maria

A1 Graduation 2019
Dear Parents of the Adolescent Community, I am writing you to invite reflection on the upcoming graduation of your 8th grader from the Way of the Shepherd Catholic School. There are some components that I want to make you aware of as well as ask for your support on. T-shirts The adolescents are in a time where they are learning to identify who they are. A way to celebrate their identities as part of the adolescent community as well as remember their time at the Way of the Shepherd is for them to have graduation t-shirts. Order forms for these shirts are attached, they will be around $20 per shirt. Please let me know as soon as possible if you want a t-shirt as they are more affordable in bulk. YearBook Pages The adolescents will be featured as the graduating class in our yearbooks. Each one will have a page about themselves where they will create a way to show the rest of the school who they are as they leave the Way of the Shepherd. They will work on and finish these pages during the school day. Gift to Classroom In contemplating how they will leave a legacy behind and move towards fulfilling their cosmic task, the adolescents will work together during the school day to generate a gift to create to leave behind in the adolescent classroom. This will leave their fingerprints on the classroom and leave a legacy behind them for the future generations of adolescents. This will be an independent project which they themselves will run and complete. Speeches At the graduation ceremony in May, each adolescent will present a speech they will work on in the classroom and at home. Each adolescent will choose one of our classroom values to focus on and share about how they grew and lived that virtue at WOS and how they will live it going forward into their high school years. The Month of May: Service: Time of Service, 2nd Week of May Faith: LifeLine Mass, May 4th, 6 p.m. (parents/families welcome, more details to come) Fun: Event Generated by 8th Graders, 3rd Week of May Graduation Dinner: Dinner hosted by Mrs. Goodwin, May 11th, 6 p.m. As always, let me know of any questions or concerns. More details to come. In the Father’s Love, Maria Goodwin [email protected] My Classroom Economy: In the next few weeks, the adolescents will be embarking on a classroom economy adventure where all they do in the classroom gains them money and things they do in the classroom requires their rent and fines. They will learn all about what it is like to have a practical consequence of saving and spending money within the classroom setting! Not only does this set them up for their future, it also aids them in working towards establishing their own small businesses within the classroom which they are moving towards this spring!
Additionally, April 8-12 is our first Annual Vocations week in the classroom. Each day, a representative of each vocational call will come in and chat with the students about their vocation and the discernment process. April 8th: Sister Marie (Schoenstatt Sister) April 10th: Father Ben W. April 11th: Lenten Retreat April 12th: Adam and Alex Wienzetl More to come soon! Adolescent Classroom 2019
Spring Internship Week May 6th-May 10th As a way to set up the adolescent with the tools necessary to discern their cosmic task in the world, the adolescent curriculum at Way of the Shepherd will provide an Internship Week for them in May. During the next couple months leading up to May, the adolescent will research, communicate, and contact someone who is skilled in their trade in order to set up a time for the adolescent to shadow and become an apprentice to them. This not only harkens to Maria Montessori’s theory for the adolescent learning real-world skills like farming, woodcarving, and managing a business but provides an avenue for the adolescent to discover a meeting ground of where their gifts and interests lie and explore that place. I ask for your support and participation during this week. Each adolescent’s experience will vary depending on their interest and communication with their mentor. I will be a guide to the students but their research, communication and planning will be entirely led by them. They will end up sharing in an oral presentation their experience with the class and with parents and reflect on the tools and skills they gained. Below are the details regarding the Internship Week. 7th Grade: Intern under a guide at Way of the Shepherd 8th Grade: Apprentice under a mentor in their desired career field When: May 6th-May 10th, during the school hours Presentation: Thursday, May 16th at 6 p.m. Hello all,
