Hello parents,
This is a busy weekend! I just wanted to give a brief overview of what is expected Saturday and Sunday. Saturday morning they should be at Epiphany at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. We will be setting up props, costumes, sound and lighting. I am attending 8 a.m. mass at Epiphany before and would love to see you all there! Then Sunday, we are asking all adolescents to wear all black (longed sleeve) (including shoes and socks). I will be too! They should arrive at 1:15 p.m. They have done SO much in organizing costumes, prop, and decorating the set. They are integral the process and it has been so much fun to do with them! Let me know of any questions, See you Sunday!

Hello all,
Hope you are enjoying your long weekend! Stay safe with the snow coming in tonight. Just an update about the Adolescent Advent Retreat on Thursday We are going to St. Paul where Miss Marilyn Smith's order has a condo that they open for community use. There we will have games, a couple talks, small group discussion, and adoration and praise and worship in the chapel there. The adolescents will enter into a deeper understanding of what Advent is and what they are called to do in response to the liturgical new year. We will depart right after dropoff in the morning and return back to Glen Cary for normal dismissal time. We are providing a special lunch for the students so they do not need to pack lunches for that day. I have given them permission to wear their athletic clothes on Thursday as well. Let me know of any questions! Blessings, Mrs. Goodwin Hello lovely parents,
Just wanted to send out a reminder about winter clothes and recess. We WILL go outside as long as it is not below 0 degrees outside. The adolescents haven't been wearing snowpants and boots because there isn't snow yet (knock on wood). However, they cannot get their uniform clothes dirty/wet if they are not wearing snowpants- snow on the ground or not. Going into the colder months, please help your adolescent bring the necessary gear: hat, scarf, gloves, boots, snowpants, coat. It is SO cold outside when you are out there for an extended time (I did recess duty all last year). Let me know if you have any questions! Blessings, Maria I just wanted to put on your radar that I am organizing a day retreat to help the adolescents enter into Advent this year. Advent is probably the most underrated liturgical season and I would like to get them thinking about what it means to prepare for Christ's birth. We will do this during the school day on Thursday, December 6th. Priests, youth ministers, and Miss Smith are all involved and helping me plan a beautiful day for them. More details to follow but I just wanted to make you aware!
Hello parents,
I just wanted to communicate about the adolescent's involvement in the Christmas Pageant. This year the Pageant is on December 9th and rehearsal is on the 8th. The adolescents, as they did last year, will be the behind the scenes support for the E1 and E2 students. They will design, build and paint the sets with the support of David Trana. They will also outfit and costume all of the children in the pageant with the support of Kristen Carlstrom. This role is so important for the function of the play and while it is behind the scenes, shows the adolescents the necessity of having people who may not get recognition but are integral to the production of the play. Let me know if you have any questions! Maria Hello parents,
In A1 we do conferences a little differently - your adolescent prepares their portfolio of their best work, your adolescent completes a reflection and evaluation packet, and so do YOU! The conference is completely student- led, meaning each student will work hard this week to prepare, work on their professional meeting leadership, and reflect in order to have some topics all ready to discuss between you, myself, and them. I ask that you allow your adolescent to lead and work through their conference. It will follow a specific structure that they will practice this week! Your adolescent took home the conference self-reflection packet on Friday, and the FIRST PAGE is the one that is YOUR homework (sorry!). If you could complete that and be sure to bring it to your conference, that would be great! Let me know if you have any questions! I look forward to conferencing with each of you this upcoming Thursday and Friday. Nary a day goes by that I don't hear about Fortnite in the classroom. Here is a helpful article for parents and teachers from the Child Mind Institute about how to handle Fortnite, how to understand its addictive attributes and how to enforce limits so that your adolescent has a healthy balance of screentime.
childmind.org/article/parents-guide-dealing-fortnite/ We are going to take class and an all-school photo this Wednesday, following Mass at COSP. Please help your adolescent look especially nice in their official uniform! Hair that lays down flat is always preferable....;)
I will remind your student to bring their black shoes if they are serving. I am also asking them to bring their prayer journals for after Mass. On Monday, we are going out for community service, performing yardwork before the snow comes. The adolescents should bring their athletic clothes but it is NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE to wear shorts either for school or for community service/HERO.
Additionally, HERO has school photo day on Tuesday. The only reason our students need to take a photo is for the HERO ID cards that are given to each child. Please help your student choose a top that would be appropriate for a school photo. They may wear their black sweatpants still if they so desire. Hello parents,
On Monday we are going out for community service working for Matthew Plankers' grandparents. We will be doing outdoor yard work so we are asking that the adolescents bring work gloves along with their athletic clothes to change into Monday afternoon. Thank you for all you do! |
