Homework A1, Assigned September 7th            Name: ___________

All homework below is due September 14th:
  • Practice your Note Taking at church(during the homily) this weekend: take notes in an outline format and turn them in.

  • 30 Minutes of Choice/DEAR Reading a Day

  • Request your Literature Study book from the library: Outsiders

  • Individual Work: handwriting, math, grammar

  • Complete Vocabulary Assignment

  • Synthesize (step 5) your Growth Mindset research and be ready to present your synthesis (paper, paragraph, speech, powerpoint, poem, skit, Montessori book, story board, etc.) on Friday, September 14th.

  • Synthesize your Personal Interest project (whales, tornados, flag, etc.) and be ready to present on Friday, September 14th.

  • Research and share about what plant/leaf/rock/flower you gathered from hiking. Be sure to provide its scientific name (identify), where it originates (background), and interesting facts you found (biology, geology). Your choice of how to present the information - involve visual aids.

Homework for A1 Classroom, August 31st

  • 30 minutes a day of DEAR reading over the weekend

  • Personal Growth Story: Write at least 2 paragraphs (number of sentences per your grade) about a time when you overcame a struggle and grew from the experience. It can be in relation to school or a personal story. Due Tuesday, September 4th.

  • Begin your Research Project on Growth Mindset. Follow the 5 Step Research Process. (Define, Research, Verify, KWO) You should have steps 1-2 completed by Tuesday, September 4th. Bring your sources (Key Word Outlines) to school by Friday, September 7th - you should have at least two sources. You will complete Step 5 (synthesize) for next week’s homework assignment).

Available topics:
What is neuroplasticity and how does it work?
What are neurons? How can they change over time? How do we know this?
What are ways of making your brain grow?
What is a growth mindset?

  • Choose an article (on a new find or surprising data or even opinion piece) from Newsela.com and highlight or circle the Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning present in the article. Print the article, highlight and annotate it, bring it to class by Friday, September 7th.

  • Vocabulary Word List: Read the explanation of the two words - create 5 words out of the root and prefix and suffixes in the word bank. Then write a sentence for each word you create, making sure it functions correctly in the syntax. ​
