My Own Science Project
Dear Parents,
We are kicking off the year full steam ahead with a My Own Science project this first trimester. This means that your student will choose the topic and type of project they wish to complete over the next few weeks. The guidelines were given to your child but we ask that you are involved with this project in order to aid in your child’s success and safety.
These projects will mostly be completed at home or outside of the school environment. I ask that you join me in supporting your student’s exploration of science by ensuring their safety with experiments and their researching work. I do not want your child to put themselves in danger for the sake of this project. You may need to be a participant, chauffer, or supervisor of your child’s “lab” in the kitchen and I am so grateful that you will fill those roles. The purpose of this project is to show children the wide range of scientific exploration and that it can be done anywhere.
I ask that you help and support your child, but allow them to explore. Maria Montessori said to teachers, “Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.”
Performing science at home can be so much fun and will expand your child’s perception of how far-reaching the scientific method is and can be.
